Redesign Competition BannerWell, when I say a free iPad, I mean a free iPad if your design is chosen as the best design out of all the entrants; but what am I running on about you ask.

Well, we at MailBigFile feel it’s time for a redesign of the website. The old style and look was worked wonders for us and we will have very fond memories of it, but it’s time for a change.

This is where you, the creative professional, come in. We want you to come up with a new look for the MailBigFile website.

The best design from all entrants will receive a shiny new iPad 16GB. What is more, even if you’re not the winner, if your work is used on our site in any way we will reference you on the site. That’s potential free advertising for you even if you’re not a winner. Not bad for doing something that comes naturally to you.

The kind of submissions we’re looking for are typically Photoshop mockups of what the site will look like in your view. Of course, feel free to submit a design mock up in whichever varient you’re most comfortable in. At the end of the day, it’s the look and not the tools used that is key. You can even create it in HTML/CSS if you really wanted to.

Ideally, we’d prefer you submitted a mock up that included at least a redesign of the home page. Preferably your mock up will include the home page plus a few others so we can gauge the general feel your design would bring to the site as a whole. Again, the pages you use after the home page are your own prerogative and you can create a mock up of as many pages as you like but it must at least contain the home page.

To get you started, you might want to look at our own mock-ups of the new MailBigFile Logo.

Please also upload all your submissions via our Receive Solution.

The competition is set to start on Friday 15th June and will run until midnight on the 14th July. We will then assess the submissions and announce a winner once we’ve decided on a design.

Asking for thousands and thousands of pounds of free design work & peoples time – I honestly can’t believe this!

  • Tony Ed.

Couldn’t agree more with the comments already posted!!! Put your hand in ya pocket and do it properly.

  • Mike Johnson

I’m 100% with Jon’s comments. A slim chance of getting an ipad worth few hundred pounds to design a company website. It devalues what your customers do. Would you like to enter our competition to be our file transfer supplier?

More importantly your marketing department should be looking for a design based on research and a thorough understanding of your market.

  • Jon Pietz

Is this really the message you want to send to designers?

This “contest” is a slap in the face to any designer who may or may not use your service. Crowd sourcing design is just another way to devalue the design profession by asking for free spec work. And it devalues your company as well. Because it helps ensure that your best customers will less be able to afford your services in the future.

I sincerely hope you get exactly what you pay for on your new site design. But I doubt that will happen. Instead, some promising young designers will be made to feel that their talents are not worth much.

Totally agree with Jon. £399 for a new website design, really?! Personally, I wouldn’t get out of bed for that!
