Joe Skipper Makes Podium at ICAN Malaga Triathlon

Joe Skipper, who is sponsored by MailBigFile, made the podium at the ICAN Malaga Middle Distance triathlon. This was Joe’s first triathlon of 2013 and he showed good form in all three disciplines finishing in a time of 3 hrs 59 mins and third overall. He completed the 1.2 mile (1.9 km) swim in 27 mins, the 56 mile (90 km) bike ride in 2 hrs 15 mins, and the 13.1 mile (21 km) run in 1 hr 13 mins.

Joe, who is in his 2nd year as a professional triathlete, will be competing in a number of Ironman and Half Ironman events around Europe in 2013. This will include Ironman UK and Challenge Barcelona.

Should Cyclists Get Better Treatment?

As if the sport of cycling needs more controversy after the Lance Armstrong scandal, (somewhat tempered by British success on the tracks recently), along comes an issue causing ripples.

Among all the things that the Olympics/Paralympics 2012 has inspired are two trends:

a) a big uptake in some sports if not all, especially cycling
b) a reaction to the increased use/abuse of public space by cyclists in particular

It turns out that no space is immune. Inner city streets, small country lanes and towns and villages are all now tracks for tomorrow’s budding Bradley Wiggins and Laura Trott to trial themselves, as if in permanent training.

According to Nicholas Hellen and Georgia Graham in The Sunday Times, 10 February 2013, the busy and heavily-used South Circular Road in London with a speed limit of 30mph has logged a top cycle speed of 41mph.

The road ahead for Joe Skipper

At the end of November, MBF-sponsored Ironman triathlete Joe Skipper posted a report on his training progress from sunny Spain.

When the weather has turned grim in the UK, it’s good to look forward. He said that in this winter period, all the hard work is done that will pay dividends in the summer. He summed it up in a neat training mantra, ‘winter miles make summer smiles!

His message to supporters and followers back here was to put aside poor TV and get out the door. He has always found that a training partner is helpful in mutual encouragement.
