One of the original founders of, Henry Lane Fox, younger brother of Martha, has set up The Browser, a new online website for quality journalism.

It was thought that long-form writing was dying in the face of web and text speak and abbreviation. However, the site is similar to the USA’s Huffington Post, and uses technology to find the best internet-published global articles, comment and analysis, and summarises/recommends them.

The business model looks set to draw on a mix of ads, sponsorship and apps, with what is now called ‘freemium access’, in which some taster content is free, and a premium level service comes at a price. This may well become the benchmark for most content sites in the future.
